Staying Safe

Last updated July 2026

MeetopiaHQ is about meeting real people through real experiences. Most people are genuine — but you're meeting strangers, so a little care goes a long way. Please read this before your first meetup.

Meeting someone for the first time

  • Meet in public. A café, restaurant, or busy venue — never a private home or isolated spot for a first meeting.
  • Tell a friend. Share where you're going, who with, and when you expect to be back.
  • Arrange your own transport. Get yourself there and back so you're never dependent on someone you just met.
  • Trust your gut. If something feels off, you owe no one an explanation. Leave.

Before you go

  • Chat inside MeetopiaHQ first — you can only message someone once a request is accepted, so keep the conversation here until you feel comfortable.
  • Look for the verified badge and check the host's trust score and reviews.
  • Don't share your home address, financial details, or ID until you genuinely trust someone.

Travel and overnight plans

For any trip or overnight meetup, take extra care: verify the other person, agree on separate accommodation, keep your own money and documents, and check in with someone back home regularly. Never feel pressured into a shared room or an itinerary you're not comfortable with.

Report anything that isn't right

If someone makes you uncomfortable, asks for money, pressures you, or behaves inappropriately, report them from their profile or the event. Reports are reviewed, and coins held for a declined or cancelled request are always released back to you.

In an emergency

If you are in immediate danger, contact the Sri Lanka Police emergency line 119 right away. Your safety always comes before any meetup.
